TACKLE-A-CURE
10/13/2016
Tackle A Cure is a month long event in October that’s main goal is to raise breast cancer awareness. In order to do so, Tackle A Cure provides area high schools with “Pink Out” gear for their football players, cheerleaders, coaches, and referees to use during a game of their choosing during October. In conjunction with Pink Out gear, the Tackle A Cure volunteers also attend the games and distribute information on breast self-exams. These volunteers sell various pink t-shirts, pink pom-poms, and pink bracelets at the games as well. In 2015, Tackle A Cure conservatively estimated that we reached over 400,000 people and their households in the state of Mississippi to promote the importance of early detection and encourage regular examinations and annual mammograms.
On October 3rd, we were excited to host the Tackle A Cure Kickoff Breakfast at Table 100. Our participating coaches, volunteers, and various news outlets were invited to attend. Rev. Deborah Dykes, a vivacious breast cancer survivor, and Jon Weiner, a well-known sports writer and producer, were our special guest speakers for the event. A great time was had by all.
Our Tackle A Cure season has started off well with Pink Out games at Belhaven University, Brandon High School, Florence High School, Independence High School, Pearl High School, and St. Andrews. We have several games left this season and would love to see you there! On October 14th, Tackle A Cure will have representatives at Germantown High School and Terry High School. Leake Central will hold their Pink Out Night on October 21st. We will finish up our Tackle A Cure season with Richland High School and Okolona High School on October 28th.
